Kentucky State Police have charged a Nashville resident following a high speed pursuit in Lyon County on Saturday.
According to a news release, it began as a two-vehicle crash on I-24 westbound near the 50-mile-marker in Lyon County were one of the vehicles involved reportedly left the scene and continued down I-24. A vehicle that matched its description was spotted by troopers a short time later, and they attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
That’s when the driver, identified as 55-year-old Richard Rogers of Nashville, exited onto U.S. 62, failing to stop and accelerated at a high rate of speed. That pursuit traveled onto Goodman Road, where Rogers reportedly became stuck in a pond on the property, ending the pursuit.
He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, second-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief, criminal trespassing, reckless driving and numerous traffic violations.
KSP was assisted by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Eddyville Police Department, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources-Law Enforcement Division, and the Eddyville Fire Department.
