Community remembers those lost in FOP Law Enforcement Memorial

It was a beautiful summer afternoon, as community members, law enforcement, officials and loved ones gathered together for the Fraternal Order of Police Memorial Service Thursday.

It was a gathering off multiple branches of law enforcement and first responders, remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice while working to make the world a better place. Fort Campbell Emergency Services Director Phillip Mason calls the ten individuals who lost their lives in Christian County in the line of duty true heroes—that includes Specialist James Sakofsky of the Military Police, who called the area home when he fell in 2001.

FOP President Mike Velez thanked everyone for their attendance, saying its up to this community to never forget the fallen.

Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight says that these heroes fought hard and bravely to make the world a more just and caring place, and now it’s up to the citizens to keep the fight going, until we see them again.

A Three Volley Salute was conducted by the Christian County Jail, and the mayor and County Magistrate Rich Liebe read a proclamation declaring it National Police Memorial Week. The service concluded after a wreath was placed in front of the statue depicting the Archangel Michael defeating evil, where the ten names of those lost are inscribed for all to see.

They are; Officer R.H. West, Officer Henry Lane, Officer Charles Hord, Deputy Wallace Meyers, Officer Owen Flack, Officer Amos Faulkner, Trooper Joseph Ward, Officer Bob Banker, Specialist James Sakosfsky and Officer Phillip Meacham.
