After weeks of careful trapping, herding, sweet-talking and various wrangling methods, the stray dog known as Luna has been successfully caught by rescuers.
Luna, a black and white, long-hair medium size dog, has captivated the attention and concerns of numerous community members, after she’s been seen in the area of Fort Campbell Boulevard near Arby’s in Hopkinsville for quite some time. Incredibly shy and frightened, the canine often skated too close to a very busy roadway, and multiple community partners came together to try and catch her.
Luna would prove too smart for her own good however, evading traps, staying just out of arms reach, ignoring tempting snacks and even powering through a tranquilizer dart.
As of Thursday morning, she’s safe and sound at the Christian County Animal Regional Animal Shelter, thanks to the efforts of shelter staff, Hopkinsville Police Department Animal Control, community volunteers and countless others.
Shelter officials say Luna has a home waiting for her—in fact, it’s likely that a lot of folks would make sure that Luna never spends another night on the streets.
