The Mayor’s Youth Council is set to return in Hopkinsville, as Mayor J.R. Knight announced that applications are open now for interested juniors and seniors in Christian County.
According to a news release, this will be the seventh Mayor’s Youth Council, and students in grades in 11th and 12th are invited to apply, no matter if they’re enrolled in public schools, private schools, or homeschooled.
Applications can be found and submitted on the City of Hopkinsville website, along with student information and a resume, two letters of recommendation and a signed participant release form, and the deadline to apply is September 16.
Application finalists meeting program requirements may be offered a personal interview to be conducted between September 23 – 26. Selection notices will be sent to all applicants by October 4 and an official class announcement will be held on October 15 at the Hopkinsville City Council Meeting.
The Mayor Youth’s Council gives local youth the chance to give their points of view on issues facing the community and offer their own ideas for solutions, while improving on leadership and volunteerism skills.
