Arts Council Director highlights upcoming shows, performances

The turn of the new year means new shows at the Alhambra Theatre in Hopkinsville, and Pennyroyal Arts Council Executive Director Margaret Prim appeared on WHOP recently to spotlight what events and shows they have on the calendar.

The council’s LIVE at the Alhambra series continues on Friday at 7 p.m. with a performance by Sean Dietrich, better known as Sean of the South. Dietrich is an author, musician and humorist, and Prim also says he is a wonderful storyteller.

The rest of the LIVE series includes Alfreda Sings Tina, An Evening of Sade and The Steel Drivers. Turning toward next year’s LIVE series, Prim says they plan to host singer Martha Redbone, who will be performing poems by bell hooks to music.

Then on January 22, Jazz On Stage is back with two evening shows featuring the Sofia Goodman Group. Goodman is a composer and bandleader based in Nashville, and Prim says she will be paying tribute to fellow female jazz composers and artists.

Folks from The Missoula Children’s Theatre will be back in town on January 26 to host auditions for “Sleeping Beauty.” Prim says auditions will be that day at 4 p.m. at the Indian Hills Elementary School Gymnasium. Kiddos from kindergarten to twelfth-grade are invited to audition, and Prim says it’s a great way to see if they enjoy being in theatre productions.

Following a week of rehearsing, “Sleeping Beauty” will be hosted at the Alhambra Theatre on January 31.
