The Pennyroyal Arts Council has a bunch of shows and programs planned for 2025, and Council Executive Director Margaret Prim appeared on WHOP News to share what they have in store.
Prim says they were quite busy in December and over 11,000 people attend shows at the Alhambra Theatre.
On January 20, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Fisk Jubilee Singers will be performing at the theatre. The group is an African-American a cappella ensemble that was founded at Fisk University in Nashville in 1871.
The season will also include a Valentine’s Day show featuring Shadows of the 60s a Motown tribute band. For the country music lovers, Jason Coleman, the grandson of pianist Floyd Cramer, and Meagan Taylor, the grand-niece of guitarist Chet Atkins, will put on a show in March. Then in May, the So Good! Neil Diamond Experience Starring Robert Neary will be coming to Hopkinsville.
Along with their season shows. Prim says the Missoula Children’s Theatre will be back in town for a production of “Hercules” and children are invited to participate. The theatre troop is based in Missoula, Montana and members travel around the country to provide theater experiences for children.
Auditions are on January 27 at Indian Hills Elementary School at 4 p.m. and registration is open for students from first-grade to twelve-grade. Rehearsals will take place from January 28 to January 31 and then a showing will be hosted at the Alhambra on February 1. Prim says the show is a great chance for children to get a taste of live theater.
Turning toward theatre renovations, Prim says they the Alhambra needs some ceiling repairs which may result in them closing the theatre for a couple of months. Show tickets and program information are available at pennyroyalarts.org.
