Burn Ban now in place for Hopkinsville, Christian County

A burn ban has been issued by Hopkinsville Fire Department Fire Chief Steve Futrell for all of Hopkinsville, in effect immediately and until further notice. And Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam has signed an Executive Order instating a burn ban for all of Christian County.

That burn ban is in place for all areas in the City limits, due to extremely dry conditions that have led to an increased risk for brush and wildfires.  All residents are prohibited from conducting open burning of any kind, including burning of yard debris, open fire pits, campfires and bonfires.

Exceptions will be made for personal cooking, such as outdoor grills.

Violators of the burn ban could face fines or other enforcement actions.

Chief Futrell says, “With current dry conditions, even small fires can spread quickly and become dangerous. This Burn Ban is proactive measure to protect our community until conditions improve.”
