Just last week the Kentucky Farm Bureau announced Laken Falwell as the recipient of the 2024 Excellence in Ag Literacy Award.
Falwell is a K-5 library media specialist and STEM teacher from North Calloway Elementary School. She was recognized with the award for her commitment to improving and developing agriculture education.
In a news release for the KFB it mentions, among Falwell’s existing curriculum, she offers students hands-on opportunities to explore agriculture in their community and beyond.
Throughout the school year she has incorporated fun activities like learning about the life cycle of pumpkins, animal petting zoos, and soil types. In addition to learning in her classroom, Falwell has collaborated with farmers, agriculture agencies, and guest speakers to prompt student involvement outside of the classroom.
Malinda Hendley, North Calloway Elementary Principal says, “Laken Falwell is truly deserving of this award, as she has gone above and beyond to foster agricultural literacy and inspire a love for farming and the environment among our students.”
