CCPS Director of Bands talks recent honors, preparing for the combined bands

While it may be the off season for marching bands, the band students of Christian County Public Schools remain active in competition and performances.

That extends all the way to the Director of Bands Anthony Darnall, who was recently awarded and then recognized as the High School Teacher of the Year Award by the Kentucky Music Educators Association. He told WHOP Wednesday morning that it was a huge honor, and was a highly competitive process.

Along with that, the accolades continued for the students, as several CCPS music ensembles performed at the KMEA conference in Louisville, including the choir.

This school year marks the end of an era for both band programs, but the start of something new when they become the Christian County Tigers. Darnall says they have nearly 200 students already signed up, and he’s eager to get something big going for the first year.

He also says to stay tuned on a fight song and an Alma-mater song—they’re cooking up something he thinks people are going to like.
