CCPS Superintendent talks enrollment, strong start to the school year

It was a strong start to the school year on Monday, and Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they’re going to work on continuing that momentum heading into the rest of the year.

Appearing on WHOP’s Early Bird Show Tuesday morning, Superintendent Bentzel says he heard good reports from all across the district and while that is certainly something to celebrate, it should be the expectation from here on out.

He says transportation overall seemed to go well, but there’s still room for improvements.

As for the enrollment numbers, Bentzel says they’re similar to last year’s numbers, hovering around 7,700 students so far, but he expects that number will increase some over the next couple of weeks.

It’s a bittersweet year for the high schools, as soon Hopkinsville High School and Christian County High School will combine, with the consolidated school set to open in 2026—which means this is the final year for those two institutions.

Bentzel says they’re focused on the Class of 2026 and making it a great year for them, but after that, it’s all-in on the new high school, new campus, and a new legacy.

There will undoubtedly be events happening throughout the year celebrating and honoring the final year for the high schools, so stay tuned to the Christian County Public Schools Facebook page for more information.
