With their sirens blaring and lights flashing, members of local law enforcement gave kids from the community a ride to Walmart in Hopkinsville for Shop with a Cop on Wednesday to buy Christmas gifts for their families.
Shop with a Cop is an annual event hosted by the Hopkinsville Fraternal Order of Police where they invite members of the Hopkinsville Police Department, Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Christian County Jail, Oak Grove Police Department and Fort Campbell Military Police to take children Christmas shopping for their families.
Lisa Gould with the order says Shop with a Cop has been a tradition of theirs for over 30 years and this year they were able to take 28 kids shopping.
While kids shop for their family members, the order buys presents for the participating children. Shop with a Cop is made possible by donations from the community, throughout the year the order raises money to ensure that families have a great holiday season.
Gould says she feels a great sense of joy being able to host Shop with a Cop, a tradition close to her heart.
After they bought their presents, the kids and law enforcement went back to the Hopkinsville War Memorial Building to wrap the gifts so that they are ready for Christmas.
