Christian Fiscal Court approves several items regarding county buildings

Christian County Fiscal Court approved several items regarding county buildings at Tuesday’s meeting, and heard some updates regarding the pending renovation of the historic courthouse.

First up on the agenda was approval of a contract with Advanced Mechanical Contractors to update the HVAC systems at the Christian County Jail, with Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam saying this is part of their ongoing effort to keep their facilities well maintained.

Also approved was the jail fee schedule and approval of updates to the Jail Policy and Procedures. Magistrates also approved a change to the resolution regarding the Weber Street building, which is about to go up for purchase. Gilliam says the new language will allow the Fiscal Court to regain ownership of the building in the event it becomes dilapidated.

As for the upcoming renovation for the Christian County Courthouse, Judge Gilliam says they are beginning to transition from the designs phase, and they’ll be looking to find funding to support their efforts.

The Christian County Regional Animal Shelter took in 228 animals in the month of January, according to Nicole Gentry, and 276 pets were adopted out or went to rescues.

In other action, magistrates approved a Kentucky Product Development Initiative grant with the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, to pursue a sewer study with the Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority at Commerce Park II.
