Hopkinsville Public Information Officer, Amanda Brunt appeared on WHOP to talk about the City’s work toward spotlighting members of the community and local businesses as well as their plans to start a monthly newsletter on Friday.
The “Here in Hoptown” podcast started in January and serves to spotlight members of the community and upcoming events. Brunt says for Black History Month they highlighted current Christian County Fiscal Court Magistrate, Magaline Ferguson the first Black woman to serve on the Court.
For Women’s History Month, Brunt says they have partnered with local historians William Turner and Alissa Keller to host two podcast episodes focusing on women in Hopkinsville’s history that have made an impact.
Beyond hosting the podcast, Brunt says they also have a plan to shed some light on small businesses. Brunt says the first Friday of each month will be dubbed as Feature Friday and the city will post a video to their social media focusing on a small business and what goods or services they offer.
The first Feature Friday was on March 1 and Stella’s Soap Co. was spotlighted. Brunt says small businesses interested in being featured can email Diane Turner at diane.turner@h-ky.us.
To keep residents informed about, upcoming events, what went down at a recent City Council meeting and the operations of local agencies, Brunt says people can sign up for their newsletter which is set to start in March.
