City of Hopkinsville creates AI Advisory Board to regulate AI use by city staff

As artificial intelligence worms its way into everyday life, the City of Hopkinsville has launched an AI Advisory Board and is working to regulate AI’s use.

City Policy Analyst Cody Brem says the advisory board was formed to proactively address AI’s continued evolution and is composed of city department leaders. Together, Brem says the board is establishing how AI can be used by city agencies.

Brem says city workers were surveyed and answered questions about their concerns surrounding AI and how they use it for work. With the information gathered, Brem says the advisory board developed an AI policy that includes guidelines for its appropriate use.

Along with creating the policy, Brem says the city has partnered with a couple of organizations to encourage the safe use of AI. Brem says Darwin AI helps them monitor how city workers are using AI and offers three types of AI workflows for folks to use.

The city has also partnered with Innovate U.S., which offers AI training for government and public service employees.
