Over a foot of rain fell across Christian County during the first week of April resulting in flooding which is still impacting areas. In response the City of Hopkinsville announced that it’s waiving permit fees for flood repairs through October 31.
Permits will not be required for flood related clean up efforts such as removing and disposing of damaged furniture, carpet or drywall; cleaning and sanitizing floors, walls and duct-work; covering holes or broken windows to prevent further damage and making building safe to enter. However, damages should still be reported at hoptown.org/propertydamage.
Before any repairs are made, the city encourages residents to contact Community and Development Services at 270-887-4285 to determine whether a permit is required.
Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight says he knows rebuilding is difficult and waving these fees is one small way they can ease the burden and support residents and business owners as they rebuild.
