Clarksville police respond to calls of an armed subject experiencing a mental health crisis

Clarksville Police responded to Westfield Court Monday afternoon for reports of an armed individual who was experiencing a mental health crisis.

According to a news release, officers responded to the 100 block of Westfield for reports of an adult male suspect who was making suicidal statements while armed with a firearm. A police perimeter was established for negotiators to make contact with the man.

At around 6:15 p.m. while negotiations were underway, officers reportedly heard a gunshot. Contact was quickly made with the subject, who had a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and staff immediately began administering medical aid until EMS arrived on scene.

He was transported to Vanderbilt in Clarksville, where his status is unknown.

No one else was injured in the incident, with no other information currently available.
