Commissioner Shell spotlights agriculture trends at KFB Luncheon

The Kentucky Farm Bureau recently hosted its Commodity Luncheon at its 106th annual meeting, and Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell talked about current agriculture trends and challenges.

Shell was the event’s keynote speaker, and spotlighted some of the issues farmers are dealing with. According to a news release from the bureau, Shell says over the past three years, the price of grain has decreased, and farmers are facing pressure to convert their farmland to be used for other purposes.

Shell’s speech also focused on the profitability of agriculture, and he says he wants to see farms across the state to generate more revenue.

Turning toward education, Shell called “All In for Ag Education Week” a success and says students today will be prepared to solve the agriculture problems of the future.

Despite the current challenges, Shell says he believes the state has strong leadership, the right partners and good momentum to create a prosperous and resilient future for Kentucky’s agriculture industry.
