Crisis Aversion and Rights Retention Bill filed in the legislature

Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County has officially filed his Crisis Aversion and Rights Retention bill, or Senate Bill 13, this week in the Kentucky General Assembly.

Also known as CARR, the bill would give law enforcement the power to temporarily remove firearms from someone they believe to be in a mental health crisis where they might harm themselves or others. He says the standards that have to be met to have your firearms taken away in CARR are much higher than they are through other methods that are currently in place.

Westerfield says he understands that people are very concerned about their second-amendment rights and he doesn’t blame them, but there must be a middle ground that can do some good for those in a crisis situation.

The bill has already met opposition and likely has an up-hill battle in the legislature.
