East 14th Street shooting case finds resolution in court

Devon Poindexter, the man who had originally been accused of shooting Benjamin Murray in May of last year, entered a guilty plea in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning—but had the bulk of his charges dismissed.

Poindexter had been facing charges of first-degree assault, wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. But Wednesday morning, he entered a guilty plea to the amended charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and all other charges were dismissed, as clarified by Judge John Atkins.

It comes with a recommended sentence of five years with the Commonwealth Attorney neutral on probation, and Judge Atkins set a final sentencing date of February 19.

During the course of the case, conflicting information had led to the Commonwealth questioning if Poindexter should have been the defendant on the original charges. The original incident is said to have occurred at a part on East 14 Street in May of 2023.
