Eclipse Watch Party happening in Hopkinsville Monday

The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County, Visit Hopkinsville, and Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation is hosting a Watch Party for the Total Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8.

According to a news release, Hopkinsville falls just outside the path of totality, but we will still experience a partial eclipse. The partial eclipse will begin before 1p.m., will be at its greatest at 2:03 p.m. and will then conclude just after 3 p.m.

The community is invited to gather at the Hopkinsville Visitor’s Center from noon until 4 p.m. for fun activities and to view the eclipse with friends. Eclipse glasses should be worn at all times if outside and looking at the sun. Eclipse glasses are available for purchase at the Visitors Center for $1, while supplies last.

The watch party will also be a time to commemorate and remember Christian County’s place as the Point of Greatest Eclipse for the Great American Eclipse on August 21, 2017. Food trucks, crafts, snacks, games, music, and a simple sense of community are on the agenda for the afternoon.

The watch party will be held at the Hopkinsville Visitors Center located at 1730 East 9th Street and the event is free to attend.
