From the South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council, Executive Director Carter Hendricks and Associate Director Tony Prim appeared on WHOP to share what upcoming programs they have in store to connect adults to career opportunities.
For this week, Prim says they had tours set, which have been rescheduled as a result of the weather, for their SWK Ignite program. The program serves to help students who are not planning on attending college or enlisting in the military find a place in their local workforce by giving them tours of regional industries.
Hendricks and Prim say it’s important to show students the opportunities that are available for them in the industrial field as labor procedures have greatly modernized.
Along with spotlighting their outreach toward high school students, the pair shared an update regarding the development of the Industrial Maintenance and Mechatronics program at Fort Campbell’s Hopkinsville Community College campus.
Prim says the 14-week long program is for soldiers transitioning out of the military and says the program could lead to a channel of retired soldiers taking jobs in the region.
Hendricks says the industrial career opportunities available across the region can be a good start for those transitioning from the military or graduating from high school.
Along with providing jobs for those in the area, Hendricks says they also feel as though they have an obligation to help the industries that have planted their roots in southwestern Kentucky.
