Christian County Fiscal Court approved the budget for fiscal year 2024-2025 at Tuesday morning’s meeting, along with renewing the business insurance plan.
The $48 million budget was approved unanimously and includes money for four percent pay raises to county employees, along with projects involving Ruff Park, the Christian County Sheriff’s Department and the Christian County Jail.
While discussing insurance coverage for the county, Brad Bolinger with Higgins Insurance says that many government agencies in this region are expanding their coverage to better cover damages caused by weather events.
Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam made the recommendation that Fiscal Court accept a renewal to their insurance policy that includes earthquake coverage, representing a 14.8 percent increase over last year’s policy.
In other action, magistrates also accepted the rural and secondary road program recommendations from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, approved appointments to several boards and approval of the administrative code.
Before the meeting adjourned, Judge Gilliam took time to recognize and announce the upcoming retirement of County Solid Waste Enforcement Officer and former magistrate Jim Fleming, saying he’s done more than his fair share of service to the county and he will be missed.
Fleming is set to retire at the end of June—Fiscal Court will be looking to find someone to replace Fleming’s role in the near future.
