Christian Fiscal Court approved the budget for the upcoming fiscal year upon second-reading at Tuesday morning’s meeting, and heard updates regarding FEMA and the Christian County Animal Shelter.
The $52 million spending plan is for fiscal year 2025-2026 and was returned to Fiscal Court for final approval after getting the okay from the Kentucky Department for Local Government. It includes a four percent cost of living raise for employees across the board, money for numerous capital projects and infrastructure.
County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam thanked the Budget Committee and numerous others for their efforts in crafting this budget, and he believes the four percent in project growth shows it’s going to be a strong year for Christian County.
Fiscal Court approved agreements between Trigg and Todd counties for the housing of animals at the Christian County Regional Animal Shelter, with some increases to the agreement amount.
Speaking of the Animal Shelter, Director Melissa Goff gave the monthly report—during the month of April, the regional shelter took in 420 animals and 274 were either adopted or went to rescue agencies.
Magistrates were informed by Emergency Management that representatives with FEMA are out in the community conducting surveys and knocking on doors to help individuals affected by severe weather in April and May with assistance.
