Former Murray High School teacher arrested on rape, sexual abuse charges

Kentucky State Police have arrested a former Murray High School teacher on rape and sexual abuse charges following an investigation that spanned seven years.

According to a news release, troopers were first told of possible sexual contact between former teacher Jason Selby and a student in August of 2018 from the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board. Shelby was a teacher at Murray High School at the time of the report, which involved at least two students.

Allegations against Shelby date back to 2005, though KSP states they were first informed in 2018—Shelby would resign from his position after the report.

Investigation began in 2018, but it wasn’t until recently that a victim came forward with enough evidence for a warrant to be issued. The victim reportedly told troopers she had sexual contact with Shelby while she was a student in 2008 and 2009, when she would have been 15 and 16 years old.

On Wednesday, Shelby was taken into custody and charged with third-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse.
