A familiar face in local law enforcement will take on a new role at Christian County Public Schools, as Clayton Sumner has been named the Director of School Safety.
According to a news release from CCPS Communications Director Johnna Brown, Sumner will begin his duties on January 6, and brings with him a hefty amount of experience, having served in law enforcement for over 20 years, including as the Chief of Police for the Hopkinsville Police Department for several years.
Sumner is a graduate of Murray State University, and holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Integrated Studies. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Administrative Officers Course at the University of Louisville and the Department of Criminal Justice Training at Eastern Kentucky University. Sumner was named the 2018 Kentucky League of Cities Employee of the Year and received the 2019 Hal and Bettye Thurmond Award.
Sumner says, “After more than twenty years of law enforcement experience serving the City of Hopkinsville, I am honored to join the Christian County Public School System. As the Director of School Safety, I am excited to lead in the development and implementation of the Christian County Public Schools Police Department while continuing programs to ensure the well-being and security of our students, staff, and schools.”
