Nearly 8,000 boots line the lawn in front of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Headquarters at Fort Campbell as a tribute and a visible reflection of the active-duty members that have died both on and off the battlefield since September 11, 2001.
The 10th annual boot display is a part of Fort Campbell’s Week of the Eagles which runs from May 17 to May 23. Week of the Eagles is a tradition that traces back to 1974 and serves to honor the legacy and heritage of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
The boots are on display in chronological order by which the service members passed away. Each boot has an American flag as well as a tag that includes the service member’s name, rank, date of death and their place of death.
The boots will be on display until Monday, May 27.
