New technology on Fort Campbell and the implementation of the Robotics and Autonomous Integration Directorate is paving the way toward future innovation.
According to a news release, the directorate was conceptualized by Brigadier General Travis McIntosh, the Deputy Commanding General of Operations for the 101st Airborne Division, and now it’s rolling out, dubbed the Robotics and Autonomous Integration Directorate, or RAID. It’s made possible in partnership with EagleWerx, Emerging Tech, and Force Integration.
The RAID enables the Division to maintain a decisive overmatch in Large-Scale Long-Range Air Assault operations by accelerating the integration of next-gen robotics, autonomous systems and artificial intelligence across all warfighting functions.
Their first mission was to create a low-cost self-assembly program to produce an in-house Purpose Built Attritable System—and they did just that, making a small, unmanned aircraft system, a drone, designed for small-unit tactical-level operations, providing first-person view drone capabilities for reconnaissance, target acquisition, and both lethal and non-lethal payload delivery.
The launch of the ABE 1.01 is geared to be the Division’s next cutting-edge piece of emerging technology.
RAID designed a training academy at Fort Campbell that will teach soldiers to utilize this technology.
