Microsoft is feeling the heat as a software glitch shut down systems across the globe, including causing issues locally with banks, Jennie Stuart Health and more.
The issue was caused by a technical problem that occurred with cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, who has since said they have identified the software issue and are attempting to resolve it, while conducting additional mitigations to provide assistance.
In the meantime, tens of thousands of flights were grounded worldwide, and many banking services are down, including Planters Bank locally. In a statement to social media, Planters Bank says their vendor was experiencing service interruptions. Hopkinsville Electric System was unable to accept any credit card payments—due to that, any disconnections have been postponed there will be no late penalties applied to any bills that couldn’t be paid.
Jennie Stuart Health announced that due to those ongoing global issues with the Microsoft outage, they had to alter some normal hours of operations.
The Medical Imaging Center on the Eagle Way Bypass and Express Lab both closed at 10 a.m.—patients with an appointment will be contacted to reschedule. Emergency services and provider-based clinics were still following normal hours. They also stated that there could be delays when utilizing other departmental services as teams worked to bring systems back online.
There is currently no suspicion that this disruption of service was a cyberattack, but merely an issue in software.
