Gov. Beshear declares State of Emergency for winter weather

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has declared a State of Emergency following wintry weather Sunday night and with wintry chances lingering throughout Monday.

Areas in western Kentucky received between one to two inches locally overnight, with a chance for another inch to fall Monday. Parts of central and eastern Kentucky received a good bit more.

According to a news release, the state of emergency declaration allows for the activation of state resources, including Kentucky Emergency Management, to help protect Kentucky communities and families. It also puts the state’s price gouging laws in to effect, to help protect Kentuckians from overpriced goods and services.

Consumers in the commonwealth can report price gouging to the Office of the Attorney General. Under state law, price gougers can be held accountable.

Governor Beshear says, “We continue to ask Kentuckians to stay weather-aware as snow accumulation and below-freezing temperatures continue to sweep through the commonwealth. Please check goky.ky.gov before you travel, and check in on your neighbors, loved ones and pets.”
