HCC purchases new land to benefit CDL, Diesel Technology programs

Hopkinsville Community College is committing to their students and their programs, and proof of that is in the recent purchasing of new property at 721 North Main Street in Hopkinsville.

That’s roughly eight acres of land, and the college plans to relocate the CDL and Diesel Technology programs to that area in the future, after it undergoes a little fixing up. Right now, the maintenance team and others are clearing the property of overgrown trees, bushes and existing fencing. New gravel will be brought in, and there are three buildings that will be demolished.

The goal is to have the CDL trucks, currently found by the Stadium of Champions, moved to the new property before June of next year, though it’s hoped that transition will happen sooner than that.

Once the initial clean-up and demolition efforts are completed, HCC plans to build a CDL – Diesel Technology facility on the property.

The program currently operates with five trucks and one tanker trailer, all of which have been funded through grants or donated to the college. HCC President and CEO Dr. Alissa Young thanked the City of Hopkinsville for their generosity in leasing the space where the trucks and the learning has happened.

Since it’s inception in 2013, HCC’s CDL program has trained over 1,000 students, with more than 85 percent of those students being active-duty military, transitioning military, veterans, or military dependents.
