Alissa Keller, the Executive Director of the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County appeared at Tuesday’s Hopkinsville Rotary Club meeting and provided an update on recent and new museum programs coming to the community.
The museum has been a membership organization since 1976 when the Pennyroyal Area Museum opened to the public. Keller says they have been working to reinvigorate their membership program and in order to do so they have added new membership programs for students and teachers costing $10.
Those with memberships can enter the museum for free, receive newsletters from the museum and receive other perks depending on the membership level.
During the year, the museum is typically open from Tuesday to Saturday, but during the summer they are also open on Mondays which have now been coined Museum Mondays. Each Monday, the museum hosts an event geared toward kids and in partnership with Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight, museum admission for students is free.
August 19 marks the last Museum Monday of the summer, and Keller says they will have activities focusing on the Kelly Green Men Invasion which happened on August 21 of 1955.
Coming up next month, Keller says they are gearing up to host their Metamorphosis Museum Gala on September 21. Keller says the event will be Hopkinsville’s Met Gala and will pay homage to Hopkinsville in the 1910s.
The gala will include an entrance ceremony, dinner, a jazz band and much more. Tickets cost $25 and are on sale on the museum’s website.
