Hopkinsville Community College graduated and recognized students who successfully completed the general education development (GED) test to earn a certificate equivalent to a high school diploma on Thursday.
The college’s 2024 GED graduating class consists of 84 students from Christian, Trigg, Todd and Caldwell Counties. Chief Academic Officer, Chris Boyett welcomed the graduates and their friends and families. Boyett recognized the work the students put in to receive their GED and the support of those around them.
Kentucky Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Warren Beeler was the evening’s keynote speaker. Beeler talked about events in his life and how they impacted him and what he learned for them. Reflecting on his time as a judge in livestock competitions, Beeler talked about success being something that is earned and not granted.
Beeler looked toward the graduates and said the work they have done to receive their GED is an example of them taking an extra step to be successful.
Before the graduates were presented with their certificates, Gary Dawson, the director of adult education shared that the GED test is not a piece of cake and each graduate worked hard for this achievement.
After, the students received their certificates they were announced as graduates.
