Hopkinsville man charged with burglary, strangulation

A Hopkinsville man is facing numerous charges following investigation into an assault and burglary on Lucky Debonair Drive Monday morning.

According to the Hopkinsville police report, officers responded to the 400 block of Lucky Debonair around 6:45 a.m. for reports of an assault. Investigation revealed that 29-year-old Jayontez Poindexter of Hopkinsville came to the home and forced the door open while a female victim was holding it—the force from the push allegedly sending the victim into the wall behind the door, causing a crack in the wall.

Poindexter and another victim got into a verbal argument that reportedly turned physical, with Poindexter allegedly wrapped his hands around her throat, choking her, and then pushing her to the ground.  Officers were able to observe redness around the victim’s throat and the arms, shoulders area.  Poindexter is also accused of unlawfully taking an iPhone from the residence.

Poindexter was located and reportedly told officers he and the victim had been in an argument and he may have pushed her at one point.

He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree strangulation and two counts of fourth-degree assault.
