Ascend Elements has been a topic of discussion in the community lately between recent lay-offs happening and re-negotiations of contracts, and Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight appeared on WHOP News recently to discuss what he could about it.
The mayor says projects of this size are ever-changing and full of starts and stops. He says while there may have been some hiccups, there’s nothing at this time that makes him feel like Ascend Elements is backing out of the project, and they’ll be before city council in the coming weeks to talk bonds and progress.
He says there have been some lay-offs related to the construction project at the Apex 1 facility located in Commerce Park II, but that was to allow for some renegotiation of contracts and they’re still moving forward.
Mayor Knight says he’s been assured that it’s still on track.
The Apex 1 Facility is currently set to be operational by the summer of 2025.
