Hopkinsville Police arrested a Lewisburg pair for drug trafficking after a search of their vehicle reportedly unveiled suspected methamphetamine on Tuesday.
According to a report, officers performed a traffic stop on a vehicle on West 7th Street for having items obstructing the windshield. Officers made contact with 45-year-old Eric Covington who was operating the vehicle and 46-year-old Tonya Covington who was in the passenger seat.
While speaking with Eric Covington, Officers reported that he was very nervous, his hands were shaking and he was breathing heavily. As a result of his demeanor, officer called a K9 unit to the scene.
Once the K9 arrived the pair were ordered out of the vehicle and a search reportedly yielded suspected methamphetamine, unknown orange pills, suspected marijuana and a scale. Officers reportedly witnessed Tonya Covington attempting to conceal something in her pants and a search of her person allegedly unveiled a large amount of suspect methamphetamine.
The pair were charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, first-degree possession of an unspecified controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Tonya Covington was additionally charged with tampering with physical evidence.
