We are officially less than two months away from the 76th WHOP Rotary Radio Auction with the Rotary Club of Hopkinsville, which means the club is in full gear to prepare.
Speaking with WHOP on Monday, Auction Chair Brett Pritchett says the time is flying by and Rotarians will soon be out gathering donations and items for the auction, which will take place April 20 through April 25 at the War Memorial Building in Hopkinsville.
While the auction is where the excitement is, a lot of the money raised to support local students actually comes from donations to the Hour Club, which Pritchett says has been adjusted to match the cost of one credit hour at Hopkinsville Community College.
The 75th Rotary Auction raised over $634,000 last year, which set a new fundraising record. Pritchett says the pressure is on, and he’s excited to take a shot at breaking that record, with his theme set to celebrate the history of this Rotary Club and this country.
Funds raised by the auction allows the club to provide scholarships and loans to students pursuing higher education as well as support local nonprofits, benefiting the Rotary Scholars program. That program allows local students to attend Hopkinsville Community College tuition-free, and the Rotary Impact Program, which supports students pursuing high-demand career paths.
