A Hopkinsville woman is facing a criminal abuse charge after Hopkinsville police conducted a welfare check on a child in her care.
According to the Hopkinsville police report, officers went to a residence on Waddell Circle on Saturday to check on a child in the care of his mother, 31-year-old Alicia Yocham of Hopkinsville. Upon arrival, contact was made with the child who reportedly had visible marks on his face, legs and feet and was allegedly very skinny, with his rib cage showing. EMS was called to the scene to check on his vitals, due to his behavior at the scene.
EMS determined he needed to go to the hospital to receive medical care.
Yocham told officers she wasn’t to blame for his condition, as he had been in the care of his father and she had only had him back for two months. Five other children in the home reportedly all appeared healthy.
Yocham was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal abuse against a child 12 years of age or under.
