HPD releases information on Skyline train vs. vehicle crash

The Hopkinsville Police Department has released further information on a vehicle versus train collision that happened on Skyline Drive Tuesday afternoon.

According to the police report, the vehicle driven by 66-year-old Jeff Davenport of Hopkinsville attempted to cross the railroad tracks and was struck by a train—he reportedly told officers he did not see the crossing gates.

Investigation by officers reportedly revealed that a city video system shows the vehicle going around the crossing gates and trying to out run the train.

Apparently two of the three minor children in the vehicle were not in proper restraints at the time of the collision—all three were transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Davenport was transported to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. Police say criminal charges are pending.
