The Hopkinsville Police Department is recognizing a group of their staff for their valiant efforts in November when a subject barricaded themselves inside of an apartment.
That individual was experiencing a mental health crisis where he was making threats to both himself and responding officers, and he had barricaded himself inside of home, refusing to come out or cooperate with law enforcement.
What followed was roughly four-hours of negotiation between the subject, officers, detectives and dispatchers. At the end of it, the man came safely out of the home unarmed, and the situation ended peacefully.
Because to their success in operating as a unit and their professionalism, Dispatch Supervisor Allison Summers, Dispatcher Cassidy Jackson, Detective and Negotiator Jonathan Sholar and Detective and Negotiator Nina Bond all received the Distinguished Group Award.
