Jennie Stuart puts temporary visitor restrictions in place as flu cases rise

No one is particularly shocked to know that the flu is widespread across Kentucky right now, but now visitor restrictions are being implemented at Jennie Stuart Health as case numbers rise.

This is in response to an increase in flu and RSV activity, according to a news release from Deaconess Health and Jennie Stuart, so all Deaconess facilities across the Tri-State area will begin temporary restrictions for visitors.

Those restrictions include having no visitors that have symptoms such as a runny nose, fever, cough, headaches, sore throat or muscle and joint pain—and there will be no visitors under the age of 16.

The policy is designed to help protect the most vulnerable patients from respiratory illnesses. Even visitors who are not having any symptoms are encouraged to make sure they’re washing their hands frequently and covering coughs and sneezes when around others. Masks will be provided for guests.

Special arrangements can be made for younger visitors for situations like births or end-of-life events.

The CDC is reporting that the 2025-2026 flu season is the most severe season in 25 years across the nation, and Deaconess is reporting they’ve also seen upticks in hospitalizations from RSV and COVID-19.
