Murder suspect Omega Plaisime appeared in Christian Circuit Court on Wednesday where his trial date was vacated to allow him to undergo a mental evaluation.
Plaisime is charged with murder and his co-defendant Tyron Holt is charged with complicity to murder in connection to the 2022 shooting death of 18-year-old Gailon Toler. In late September, the pair were released on ankle monitors while they awaited trial.
However, in March Plaisime was arrested when officers responded to reports of a vehicle break-in in Oak Grove. Upon arrival officers made contact with Plaisime who reportedly had slurred speech and intentional damage to his electric monitoring device.
His defense attorney, James Greene, says leading up to his most recent arrest Plaisime had sent him some alarming messages and since being back in custody Plaisime had been avoiding him. Plaisime’s recent actions led to Greene filing a motion for him to undergo a mental evaluation at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center.
Circuit Judge Andrew Self outlined the evaluation process and told Plaisime that he’s not sure when the evaluation will be performed. He also vacated the original trial date for Plaisime and Holt which was set for April 14.
The pair are set to reappear in court for a pretrial conference on May 21.
