Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell proclaimed May as beef month in Kentucky with the help of Kentucky beef industry personnel and producers on Monday, May 5.
Shell signed the proclamation at The Yards, in the Blue Grass Regional Stockyards Marketplace, which is a learning center that focuses on education and safe practices in the beef industry.
During the proclamation signing, Shell said Kentucky remains the state with the largest beef cattle inventory east of the Mississippi through the hard work of cattle farmers. He asks all Kentuckians to join him in celebrating their efforts in preserving the industry.
A news release from the Kentucky Agriculture Department adds that beef is still one of Kentucky’s top five commodities despite cattle inventory being down two percent from 2024. This decrease follows the national trend in production, driving up sale prices for farmers, contributing to higher agricultural receipts in the state.
