KSP taking part in national Operation Safe Driver Week

Kentucky State Police will be joining law enforcement across the country as part of Operation Safe Driver Week, which started Monday.

According to a news release, this national initiative from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance aims to improve driver behavior and reduce crashes through enforcement, inspections, education and outreach. Throughout the week, officers and inspectors will focus on identifying and stopping commercial motor vehicle drivers who are engaging in unsafe driving behaviors.

These include, but are not limited to, speeding, distracted driving, improper lane changes and failure to wear seat belts.

Officer Michael Smith with West Commercial Vehicle Enforcement says road safety is everyone’s responsibility. He says, “Operation Safe Driver Week allows us to not only promote public safety through ensuring that everyone is following the rules of the road, but also to provide education and meaningful interactions with drivers across the state.”
