Ky. Auditor’s Office seeks college students for summer internship program

Written by Reporter Gabby Cedano

Kentucky Auditor Allison Ball’s Office is now accepting applications for its annual summer internship program, offering college students hands-on experience in governmental accounting and public service.

Each year, the Auditor of Public Accounts conducts more than 600 audits and special examinations of state and local government agencies, serving as a watchdog for taxpayer dollars while promoting transparency and accountability across the Commonwealth.

The summer internship program provides students with real-world exposure to the auditing process while allowing them to contribute directly to the mission of the Auditor’s Office. In addition to technical audit training, interns gain insight into the principles of public service, limited government, free markets and the Constitution.

Auditor of Public Accounts Allison Ball says interns see firsthand how the office works to protect public funds and ensure accountability in government. She says the program helps build the technical skills necessary for a successful accounting career while also highlighting the meaningful impact of public service.

Selected interns will work in one of several divisions of the Auditor of Public Accounts. These include the Office of Records and Legal Services, which manages public records and legal compliance; Office of State Government Audits and Technology, overseeing state agency finances; Office of Local Government Audits, auditing county offices; Office of Special Examinations, investigating waste or fraud and the Office of Quality Assurance, providing research and training to ensure auditing standards are met.

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, have completed their junior year and be on track to graduate with at least 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of accounting coursework.

Applications must be submitted through the Auditor of Public Accounts website at auditor.ky.gov by February 28, 2026.
