Ky. State Penitentiary employee arrested on sexual offense charges

A caseworker who was employed at the Kentucky State Penitentiary has been arrested following investigation into reports of an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.

According to Kentucky State Police, troopers responded to the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville for reports that an employee had allegedly been seen on security footage engaging in sexual intercourse with an inmate. An investigation began immediately, and the employee in question was identified as 26-year-old Alysta Mathis of Dawson Springs.

Upon review of the footage and other investigation, Mathis was arrested and charged with third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy. She was lodged in the Crittenden County Jail and the investigation remains ongoing.
