The City of Madisonville and the Kentucky Municipal Energy Agency (KYMEA) are partnering to develop the KYMEA Energy Center I Power Plant, a natural gas electric generating facility.
According to a news release from KYMEA, the energy center is a part of their journey toward providing more reliable and sustainable energy. The energy center will include four reciprocating internal combustion engine generators and will have a 75 net megawatt capacity.
KYMEA President, Doug Buresh says the new energy center is a cornerstone in their transition to more sustainable energy production and will rapidly respond to energy demand fluctuations.
The construction phase of the energy center is projected to create around 100 local jobs and then following completion 15 permanent positions will be available.
Madisonville Mayor Kevin Cotton says they are thrilled to have this project coming to their town and the energy center is expected enhance Madisonville’s infrastructure and provide reliable and cost-effective power to residents and businesses.
Construction will get underway in June 2025 and is set to be completed in 2027.
