Barbara Gardner was a local artist and art teacher who passed away in 2021, and to honor her legacy while promoting the arts, the Pennyroyal Arts Council invites students and educators to apply to the scholarship created in her memory.
Through the Barbara Gardner Scholarship, one high school student and educator in Christian County will both receive a $500 scholarship to support their work in the arts. According to the council, they are searching for those who are actively engaged in creative projects that foster inclusion, encourage artistic expression and will make a lasting impact through the arts.
Students applying must be rising high school juniors enrolled in a public, private or home school program in Christian County. Then, educators applying must be employed by an accredited institution and reside in the county.
The application is available at pennyroyalarts.org through the “Education and Outreach” tab and the deadline is April 23. The recipients will be notified on April 30.
Council Arts Education Coordinator Kelly Selfe says this scholarship is one of the ways they invest in the next generation of creators and educators.
