Local distillery to host event to benefit animal shelter

Casey Jones Distillery is inviting the community to their Dog Days of Summer event for some live music, food trucks, vendors and family and pet-friendly fun to benefit the Christian County Animal Shelter on Saturday.

Peg Hays, one of the distillery’s founders, shared that this is their first time partnering with the animal shelter to host this event. Hays says she was on board to bring the event to life when Melissa Goff, the shelter’s director, reached out to her earlier in the year about hosting a fundraising event.

Hays encourages the community to donate pet food, treats, toys and cat litter for the shelter. Attendees can also support the shelter by purchasing special cocktails and dishes at the event. For each special Yappy Hour drink and special dish from Chef Jamie’s Food Truck that are purchased, Hays says they will donate $1 to the shelter.

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with distillery tours and tastings, food trucks, drinks and their Wag and Grab Toy Tub, which will have free toys for pets attending. At noon Yappy Hour kicks-off and so does the vendor market. Hays says the market will feature vendors doing pet sketches and photography as well as selling pet accessories and art.

The Christian County Animal Shelter will be offering pet microchipping and nail trimming services at $15 and pets will also available for adoption. Hays says event goers can bond with the pets to see if they want to take them home.

Starting at 6:30 p.m., Hays says The Fortunate Sons, a tribute band, will be performing and folks will have an opportunity to participate in the Dancing Paws Promenade with their pets.

The Dog Days of Summer event runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday at Casey Jones Distillery. Hays says she is happy that the distillery is in a position to benefit the shelter and looks forward to day of community fun.
