Local leaders talk goals, wants for the future

Local leaders are looking towards the future, as the first couple of weeks of 2024 is now behind us and at the Kentucky General Assembly convenes in Frankfort.

Speaking with WHOP recently, both Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight and Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam are thinking of what they can do to move the community forward in a positive direction.  Both have spoken on the importance of housing and improving local infrastructure, with Gilliam saying widening and improving I-24 would be a huge help.

He says furthering lower of the state income tax could also attract people to Christian County, especially as communities to our south start to become crowded.

Mayor Knight says Hopkinsville is on a good path, with the Hopkinsville Police Department fully staffed and an excellent dispatch center on hand.

He says they’re already looking towards upcoming events, with eyes already turning towards the summer, even with the current cold temperatures.

Knight says they continue to work on cleaning up Hopkinsville’s streets and they intend to do even more in the coming months.
