Local League of Women Voters to host forums for candidates seeking political offices

Election season is underway, and many public offices in Hopkinsville and Christian County are up for grabs. To give candidates a chance to share their values and goals, the Hopkinsville League of Women Voters are hosting a series Primary Election Forums in April.

Candidates running for Hopkinsville City Council, Christian County Fiscal Court, Hopkinsville Mayor, Christian County Sheriff, Christian County Property Valuation Administrator (PVA) and Christian County Constable will be participating in the upcoming forums. League members Nikki Chambers and Mona Sheth appeared on WHOP to share all the details concerning the forums.

Chambers says the forums kick off on Monday with City Council candidates for Wards Nine and 10 sharing where they stand on issues impacting the community.

The forums continue next Thursday, with the fiscal court candidates for Districts Seven and Eight and the constable candidate for District Eight. Then, on April 13, forums will be hosted for candidates running for city council Wards One and Three and the Republican candidates running for Mayor. The forums conclude on April 16, with the candidates running for District Three and Five fiscal court seats, PVA, and sheriff.

Along with the forums, Chambers and Sheth say the league will be hosting a Meet the Candidate Fundraiser Event where those running for local offices in the Kentucky General Election will have a chance to meet and chat with community members. The event will be at 5 p.m. on May 7 at the Hopkinsville War Memorial Building.

The pair also reminded listeners that the voter registration deadline is April 20 at 4 p.m. Folks can register to vote at sos.ky.gov.

The forums get started each day at 5 p.m. and will take place at the Hopkinsville Municipal Building. More information about the upcoming forums is available at League of Women Voters – Hopkinsville, KY on Facebook where they will also be live streamed. Kentucky’s Primary Election is set for May 19.
